William Shakespeare's signature - on six different documents he actually signed - is written in six different ways.
Curious? Not so much when you consider it was the convention of the time, (this was 400 years ago, production of paper was not mechanised) to abbreviate your signature.
("What does signature matter? The Play's the thing ... everyone knows who I am?")
'Words, words, words,' is a line spoke by Hamlet. It articulates the character's frustration.
Hamlet's father - who Hamlet believed died of natural causes - has returned (in the form of a ghost) and emotionally charged Hamlet to take revenge on the murderer.
Hamlet's was already upset - his mother married very quickly after his father's death - to the man his father names as the murderer.
Wrestling with a situation he dare not speak of, Hamlet acts oddly. Which gets him noticed and investigated and which leads to Hamlet - in error - killing the father of his significant other. Which loss moves the significant other, Ophelia to instability and virtual suicide.
Any student of words must have (at least) an eye for Shakespeare.
The only negative criticism this copywriter has heard, that has landed and stayed is that Shakespeare 'outdid the language'.
And that's where the mis-spellings come in.
Words are sounds, symbols, and very actually - they arbitrarily, stand for things.
This must matter when it comes to words that describe living breathing people.
Words about race, creed, an economic lack. Words that dehumanise.
For the words are not the people in themselves.
On a shirt about a master of words, an aide memoire - that words are only sounds we represent with shapes - seems a reasonable thing.
